Exciting news from the Snap Partner Summit! CEO Evan Spiegel just announced that, starting today, Scaniverse captures can be directly imported into Lens Studio and viewed on the newly launched Spectacles V5.

Details on how this pipeline will function are still emerging, but Scaniverse’s announcement suggests that it will work seamlessly from the phone.

This builds on Snap’s integration of Gaussian Splatting into Lens Studio back in mid-June, further simplifying the process of bringing 3D captures to life.

It remains to be seen whether full spherical harmonics and view-dependent effects will make their way to the fifth-generation Spectacles.

It’s worth noting that Snap also owns PlayCanvas and SuperSplat. Given this trajectory, we might eventually see a workflow where users can go from Scaniverse capture, to SuperSplat cleanup and compression, straight into Lens Studio. Stay tuned for more updates.
