XGRIDS has pushed out a large update to LCC Studio, beginning with the announcement of the lcc2 file type. The headline is support for exporting and publishing .lcc2 data, a new iteration on the .lcc format that has already found its way into platforms like PlayCanvas, Arrival Space, Nucleus, and Spatial Fields. When we covered the v1.11 release, the big news was HD enhancement coming to PortalCam and single reconstructions with .lcc export becoming exempt from subscription fees.
The most interesting addition for day to day use is probably the new preview tool, which lets you view raw point clouds or check model quality before committing to a full reconstruction. Being able to inspect the raw data before the pipeline runs is a workflow improvement that sounds small but adds up fast across multiple projects.
There's also a new photo tool for taking scene snapshots with selectable frame sizes, and a height filtering mode that lets you control visibility along the Z-axis. The height filter is especially useful for large scale indoor captures where you want to isolate specific floors or remove ceilings from the view to inspect interior geometry. On the asset management side, there's now a quick locate function accessible via right click in the asset list, which should help on projects with lots of individual scan segments.
The update also addresses some reconstruction issues that users of the large scale fusion pipeline will appreciate. Roof holes that could appear at higher LoD levels during indoor outdoor reconstruction in large empty spaces have been fixed. This was a known pain point in the aerial-ground fusion workflow, so it's good to see it addressed directly. PortalCam users also get improved performance under the exposure optimization mode, specifically in extreme overexposure and underexposure scenarios. To me, this is the update I am most excited about.
The usual bug fixes and stability improvements round out the release. XGRIDS continues to ship one impressive update after the next. LCC Studio can be downloaded here. LCC Editor can be downloaded here.
