XGRIDS has released LCC Unreal SDK v3.4.0, which adds orthographic projection support for LCC, LCC2, SOG, SPZ and PLY data.
Format breadth in the Unreal plugin arrived with v3.0.0, which added PLY, SOG and SPZ ingestion, and v3.3.1 extended SPZ to the v2 revision Marble exports.
v3.4.0 adds a control for spherical harmonics bands, the coefficients that carry view dependent color in gaussian splatting, with options for none, 1 band, 2 bands and 3 bands. Point clouds gain a data coloring mode drawn from the point cloud's own true colors, and now support both height coloring and data coloring.
Load Volume, a Pro feature, loads only the data inside a specified region during the loading stage. A runtime synchronous loading option covers single file SOG, SPZ and PLY, and single file model capacity is no longer limited by the VRAM budget.
Tiled rasterization, also Pro, is described by XGRIDS as greatly improving rendering performance, with the exact benefit depending on the scene. XGRIDS puts the reduction in PLY file loading time at about 85%. Clipping boxes and section planes read data every frame, so moving one or changing its properties takes effect with no need to call the Refresh method.
Fixes cover Gaussian projection distortion at wide field of view angles, PLY models and collision files failing to load once packaged into a .pak, ProxyMesh failing to occlude other LCC2 actors, thin or sparse nodes forcing maximum LOD and a sudden frame rate drop, and abnormal LOD calculation with the camera inside a node's bounding box.
The notes and version history published for v3.4.0 are the UE 5.5 build, and the download page carries engine tabs from UE 5.1 through UE 5.8. The plugin identifies itself as LCC4Unreal in Project Settings.
It is available now from the XGRIDS developer portal.
